I know I have been a terribly unreliable blogger of late, but to say that I have been busy with my upcoming event, would be a staggering understatement. It has all been worth it though as the show is really coming together. It has been so long in planning that I have nearly forgotten all of the awesome items that are going to be available…that is until they all started showing up this week and I am even more excited now!
One such Cleveland-based designer involved is ODDBALL PRESS, which I LOVE and can’t believe that this show will mark the first time I am carrying them at ROOM SERVICE.
“The Bus Stops Here” is an short documentary about a pair of innovative bus stop structures designed by Robert Maschke for the Detroit Shoreway area. Located on Cleveland’s West Side, Detroit Shoreway is a neighborhood in transition that has a diverse population. This documentary depicts the commitment of people who believe in their community, in Cleveland, and in the future of the region. The bus stops, two of which will be built at the center of the Gordon Square art district currently under development, will become the first public visual art forms in the neighborhood and symbolize not only the transformational power of art, but a turning point for this evolving area.
for a graduate school design project Alex Cornell concocted an entire promotional and identity package for a non-existent WES ANDERSON FILM FESTIVAL…it is utterly spectacular! check out the entire collection of items he designed here and even the trailer below:
While photographer Kevin Bauman has been photographing abandoned homes in his hometown of Detroit for more than 10 years, the current economic crisis/forclosure crisis has really given his work supreme relevance. His straightforward color documentary style photographs are at once heartbreaking and beautiful. They are in-your-face and honest yet beckon the feigned memory of a lost time in Detroit’s history.
check his site out with the 100 abandoned homes here.
Very grateful for the lovely article that Cleveland’s own GENNA PETROLLA and the crew at MESSY MAGAZINE did on the upcoming MADE IN THE 216 event. Check it and the rest of this month’s awesome issue out here:

William Rupnik Gallery is proud to present:

Contrasting feelings of anxiety and excitement, uncertainty and exhilaration, Bask’s newest installations and paintings coalesce emotions often associated with an inescapable obligation or event; rousing both apprehension and optimism. His works are inspired by economic downturn, hopeful determination and the strength and unity of a people. Bask’s new collection affirms that uncertainty and restlessness are bygone and a bright future is ahead.
