spain - a true feast

January 3rd, 2009

Shocking, i know.  That I could possibly mention a European locale other than France….BUT these past few months I have periodically been watching installments of the PBS program SPAIN! ON THE ROAD AGAIN, which I purchased on iTunes when it first came out.  I have finally managed to squeeze in each of the 13,1  hour-long episodes and am A) quite hungry and thirsty for wine but B) certain my next european venture will be to this beautiful locale.

The program featured American Chef Mario Batali, Gwyneth Paltrow, Spanish actress Claudia Bassols & NY TImes food critic Mark Bittman road tripping throughout all of Spain and taking in the culture as well as LOTS and LOTS of great indigenous foods and wines.

It’s truly a visual feast and has me craving some Paella !!!

IF you need a break from winter, I recommend renting this for a virtual vacation…or even better i suppose, would be to actually GO to spain!

winter in paris

December 2nd, 2008

I will be going for the MAISON & OBJET design tradeshow at the end of January….Typically, I am NOT a gal who enjoys winter, but with the appropriate winter wear, I will be hard pressed to spend a moment indoors with such beauty to immerse myself in outdoors!

1. Summer Chairs in Winter Paris, 2. The last winter in Paris, 3. Tree path, 4. Paris in the winter when it drizzles, 5. Paris in winter 2, 6. Au pied de la tour, 7. Metro sign in a Paris winter., 8. winter in Paris - Arc de Triomphe - colour, 9. Paris_winter_rainy–Lovely-day!

the wishing tree

November 25th, 2008

While spending my morning researching my upcoming trip to Paris, I have gone to many of my favorite blogs to see if they have posts on FRANCE or PARIS.  Naturally, I stopped at Pia Jane Bijkerk’s blog...which, of course, did not disappoint.  If not a potential stop on my upcoming itinerary, one post definitely was a stop on an inspirational path….The Wishing Tree is such a romantic notion and i was sure to stop, and make a wish….check out the entire enchanting post here...and be sure to stop and make a wish too!

Paris, here i come…but YOUR help is necessary first!

November 23rd, 2008

I have decided not to wait as long as i had originally planned to go to France.  I mean, the rationale in waiting two years was kind of lame anyhow. It was an arbitrary date I had set so that I would not feel irresponsible leaving my precious new store alone for any extended time AS WELL as the fact that said store, no matter how precious, does not exactly pay me a whole lot right now…but alas, I shall remove these self-imposed restrictions and allow the greatest inspiration into my life as soon as possible!

I am targeting going now in January or February 2009, basically in like, 6-8 weeks!  I have A LOT of planning to do, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you have been to Paris, or anywhere in France for that matter and have some tips for places I must not forget to see I beg of you to tell me now!  I am trying to plan my trip out so as to maximize my time there, not limit myself to Paris alone, although, if I never left Paris, I highly doubt I would feel very limited.

So with that, please, share with me your French experiences!  I am dying to hear from you!

Once upon a time… from Capucha on Vimeo.

nothing more adorable than a wide eyed baby girl speaking french!  my mom had my brothers and I in Spanish lessons with a lady down the street when i was like 3 years old, but it didn’t stick, surely if it had been french….well, who know!

so, i have not yet been to babycakes in NYC. although, i think i may have to put it on the list for my next trip in january. check it out here.

sightseeing in Paris outfit - part deux

October 10th, 2008

I hope to make my France trip a two-week trip with most of my time in Paris and a few excursions to the country as well.  For this sightseeing-intensive trip, I will need to find some really good multi-tasking items. A leather messenger bag can transition from day to night if need be and will feel a bit more sophisticated than any of my bicycle messenger bags would and ultimately I think a messenger is necessary for travel and sophistication is necessary for Paris.

The other key would be to find pieces that are comfortable, again with all of the walking around and the  intensity of a full day challenging myself to communicate in a foreign language (that I am still learning) and understanding the lay of the land so that the most can be made of my time…comfort is key!  However, comfort should not mean a sacrifice to style or quality.

sightseeing in Paris outfit - part un

As it seems all of my daydreaming hours (not so much “hours”, more like moments…i wish i had hours to daydream, don’t you?!) are going towards planning my future trip to Paris, I am finding it inspires so many of my choices, even of what to wear…or rather, ESPECIALLY of what to wear…I mean, IT’S PARIS!

I think this bag with all of it’s pockets, and changeable straps would make for a versatile bag to have on a long day out and about doing a variety of activities…Jeans to stay comfortable but a blouse to feel pretty and a smart cardigan because I am always cold…actually if this trip is going to be in Fall, I really out to think of un manteau as well!
